Hello everyone.
This
time, I would like to introduce one of the Japanese cultures.
The
topic I chose is a Japanese public holiday.
Do
you know there’re a lot of public holidays established in Japan.
I
will tell you about the name of the day and the origin of the day.
On January 1st is New Year’s Day. It is the
day which starts with a New Year celebration.
The
second Monday of January is Coming-of-Age Day. It is the day for congratulation
the young kids who realize they are grown-up and represent as an individual.
February 11th is the National Foundation Day.
It is the day for the cultivation of our mind which recalls foundation of a
nation and love for our country.
March 21st is the Spring Equinox Day. It is
the day for praising nature and showing love for all living things.
April 29st is the Greenery Day. It is day to
nurture rich sprits by becoming close to nature and thanking nature’s blessing.
May
3rd is Constitution Day. It is the day for commemoration the enforcement of the
constitution and hoping growth of the nation.
May 4th
is a local holiday because the previous day and the next day is holiday.
May
5th is the Children’s Day. It is the day on which wishes are expressed that the
children grow up good and find happiness. This day is also for expressing
thanks to mother.
These consecutive holidays are called Golden
week in japan. We often go on trip with our family during these holidays.
The
third Monday of July is the Marine. This day is for giving thanks for the many
blessing Japan receives from ocean and also for hoping to prosper as maritime
country.
The
third Monday of September is Aged People’s Day. It is the day for showing
respect and affecting to the elderly people who devoted themselves to society
for many years and for celebrating their long life.
September 23rd is Autumnal Equinox Day. It is
the day when ancestors are honored and remembering the deceased.
The
second Monday of October is the Sports Day. It is the day to be familiar with
sports and cultivate healthy mind and body.
November 3rd is the Culture Day. It is the day
to love freedom and equality, promoting culture.
November 23rd is Labor Thanks Giving Day. It
is the day for praising and cerebration of labor and production. The people
thank for benefits of labor.
December
23 is The Emperor’s Birthday. It is the day for celebration birthday of
emperor.
It
is important that we understand the meaning of these holidays.
